There are different Tunnel forwarding modes that can be selected within the Zscaler App Forwarding profile and are also dependent on the windows driver type i. Route based or Packet Filter based. As evident the traffic once it reaches Zscaler APP client connector is filtered and only port 80, is tunneled across to the Zscaler cloud through the physical interface.

The App installed creates a virtual ethernet network interface that is assigned a synthetic IP address from Any bypasses defined here are not even processed by Zscaler App Client connector. App profile is applied to the Zscaler App. Generally VPN gateway prefixes are defined here thus ensuring they bypass the Zscaler App completely. It ensures the same behaviour as achieved by bypassing the destinations in the Forwarding PAC file.

In contradiction, any destinations defined in the App profile PAC for bypass are processed by the App but do not traverse the Zscaler tunnel.

The same is reflected in the traffic diagram above. Traffic traversing on port 80 and is made to ride the tunnel towards Zscaler and non port 80 and is filtered and sent directly.

As shown above the port 80, packet filter is attached on the user machine allowing only TCP port 80, traffic to be sent across to the tunnel. App profile bypass destinations are processed by the App but do not ride the tunnel towards Zscaler.
